I wonder how much fossil fuel was used to provide all the logistics for the recent women’s march. The carbon footprint must have been enormous. It makes sense to stage a protest to ask for the pardon of a prisoner. It makes sense to protest to ask for a tougher sentence for a prisoner. It makes sense to protest for stricter laws on abortion or marijuana, and it makes sense to protest for more lenient laws on abortion or marijuana. However, the women’s march the day after the 2017 presidential inauguration had the message, “Women’s rights are human rights.” Besides the fact that that is obviously true, what was the point? What was supposed to change? What law was supposed to be repealed or passed? I suppose a secondary message was, “We don’t like Donald Trump’s personality,” but I don’t think any march can possibly have an effect on that.
